Exploring the Legacy of Baltistan Gems International (BGI)

Baltistan Gems International, or BGI, is a renowned mining and trading company with a rich history in the gemstone industry. Established in Skardu, Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan, in 2000-01, BGI has been a significant player in the business of natural and rough precious and semi-precious stones and minerals for over two decades.

BGI's primary focus lies in dealing with rough, natural crystals, and specimens of gemstones sourced from the mineral-rich Baltistan region. A significant portion of their gemstone crystals and specimens are extracted from the mines by the local people of Baltistan, particularly from regions like Shigar, Roundu, Haramosh, and Ghanche Valleys.

What sets BGI apart is its investment in its own mining operations, strategically located in different villages of Roundu and Shigar. These mines hold tremendous potential, housing various varieties of gems and mineral deposits. While BGI manages its mines, local miners are also actively engaged in the extraction of various natural gemstones, employing both traditional and modern mining methods and techniques.

Baltistan Gems International has earned its reputation as a leading gemstone company, and its commitment to delivering high-standard quality natural and rough gemstones is unwavering. They are dedicated to creating a friendly business environment built on principles of honesty, integrity, trust, and high human values, ensuring the satisfaction of their valuable international clients, customers, gem collectors, and gem enthusiasts throughout the service delivery process.

At the helm of BGI, we have Mr. Mohammad Jahangeer Khan, the Managing Director of the company. Mr. Khan holds a master's degree in Sociology from the prestigious University of Peshawar, a well-reputed institution in Pakistan. With over two decades of active involvement in the gemstone and minerals industry, he continues the legacy established by his father, Haji Jabbar Ali, who was one of the pioneer gemstone businessmen in Gilgit-Baltistan, starting his journey in the trade as early as 1970.

Joining Mr. Khan in leadership is Mr. Imtiaz Ali, the Chief Executive Officer of BGI. Mr. Ali holds a Master of Science degree in Agricultural Economics and Rural Sociology from the Agricultural University Peshawar. His dedication to the industry is evident through his service as the Gemstone Enterprise Manager with BCDF/ BEDAR/ AKCS-P for several years. He played a pivotal role in organizing the gems community at the Baltistan level, bringing together gemstone enthusiasts and professionals under the umbrella of the esteemed "Baltistan Gems and Minerals Association."

Mr. Ali's contributions also extended to organizing the first-ever Gems and Minerals Shows at prestigious venues like the Mashabrum Hotel Skardu and the Holiday Inn Islamabad during the years 2005-06. With a career spanning 15 years in the gemstone and minerals industry, he carries forward the legacy initiated by his father, Haji Mohammad Shah, a pioneer gemstone tycoon in the region who ventured into the gemstone business as early as 1960.

BGI's story is not just about business; it's a testament to the enduring passion and commitment to the world of gemstones and minerals, ensuring that the beauty of the earth's treasures is shared with the world.
